William Henry Griffiths
William Griffiths (Service No 1199) was born in Haverford, Wales in 1891.
At the time of enlistment, William was single, 24 years of age and employed as a driver in Helensburgh, NSW. William listed Uncle J Prosser in Wales as next of kin. William embarked on HMAT A32 - Themistocles with the 17th Battalion, D Company on 12 May 1915 for Egypt. He was to Gallipoli, Turkey on 19 August 1915 where the Battalion saw action at Quinn's Post.
On 30 October 1915, William was admitted to hospital in Gallipoli and resumed duty with his unit on 1 November 1915. William arrived in France on 23 March 1916 where he served on the Western Front.
William was returned to Australia in April 1919 and discharged on 30 July 1919. He returned to Helensburgh, NSW and died there in 1958.
