David Montgomerie (Service No 7007) was born in Ayrshire, Scotland around 1881.

After moving to Australia, David settled in Coledale, N.S.W. with his wife Ann.

At enlistment he was 35 years old, and worked as a miner and a cook.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A24 Benalla with 23rd Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion, on 9th November 1916.  The troops arrived in England on 9th January 1917.

After an number of hospital admissions, David was deemed not fit for active service and on 7th May 1917 was reclassified asCclass C for home service.

David returned to Australia in January 1918 and was discharged medically unfit on 16th April 1918.
