Eric Ferguson (Service No 1173) was born in Sydney but at the time of enlistment was a single 25 year old carpenter from Austinmer, N.S.W.  He was captain of the Surf Club and secretary of the Progress Association.

Eric embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A40 Ceramic with D Company, 18th Battalion on 25th June 1915 and arrived on Gallipoli on 16th August 1915.  He saw service on Gallipoli for just 11 days as he was wounded in action on 27th August 1915, receiving shrapnel wounds to his chest, shoulder and right leg.  He was evacuated to hospital in Egypt for treatment.  Due to the severity of his wounds Eric was returned to Australia in November 1915. When he arrived back he was admitted to hospital at Georges Heights, Mosman and was finally discharged medically unfit on 4th March 1917.

In 1919 he married Emily Marr and they do not appear to have had any children. Eric died in 1960.

His service is commemorated on the Austinmer War Memorial.
